The first Michael Vey book opens up with two men talking on the phone.They are looking for two children, they already have fifteen. "Those kids are already to old. You know how difficult they are to turn at this age." "But I have my ways and if they don't turn, there's always Cell 25.
Michael Vey is an ordinary kid, he goes to school, gets bullied and lives in Idaho. But he is also different, for one he has Tourette's syndrome. His dad died of a heart attack when he was eight and he has a secret. A big secret.
Michael was in Mr. Dallstrom's office, who was the principal of Meridian High School. He was there because three bullies shoved him inside his locker. Upside down."Mr. Vey you cannot be stuffed into a locker without your consent," Mr. Dallstrom said. Michael wouldn't tell him the names of the boys/bullies so now he has to take their punishment. 4 weeks of detention.
Michael went back to class and sat behind his best friend Ostin, named because he was born in Austin, Ostin was beyond smart.
After detention, Jack, Mitchell, and Wade (the bullies) grabbed him outside of the school. "You ratted us out to Dallstrom, didn't you?" Jack said. As he pushed Michael into the bushes. Michael protested saying that he didn't tell, but the boys didn't believe him so they started to hit him. Micheal's eye begin to swell and he was bleeding. Once he was on the ground Wade said "I say we pants him."
As Michael struggled to stand up someone yelled "Leave him alone!" Taylor Ridley a smart popular cheerleader (also his crush) was standing there. The boys were laughing "Yeah, shake those pom-poms for us," Jack said. All three of them grabbed him pinning him face down in the grass and started ripping off his clothes as Taylor stood there yelling at them. And saying that she was going to get a teacher but there was no teacher there. "Shut your mouth," Jack yelled at her. Hearing someone talk like that to her made him snap. "Let me go, I'm warning you," Said Michael. Suddenly a sharp electric ZAP! pierced the air. Jack and his posse fell to their backs. That was Michael's secret. He could shock people. And his powers were growing. Soon he finds out that he isn't the only one with powers. And that their are people looking for him and they will stop at nothing to get him and his powers.
